Here is a list of our top six Dubrovnik day-trip ideas all within an hour’s drive of the ancient city

Mlini

Mlini  - Just a fifteen-minute drive from the heart of Dubrovnik the charming and relaxed coastal village of Mlini offers a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. With cafes, restaurants and water sports you can even reach Mlini by boat direct from the Old City harbour. This area is well-known for its numerous beaches.

Cavtat

Cavtat  - Dubrovnik's older sister, this picturesque town is only a 30 minute drive from Dubrovnik and can also be reached by a regular boat service. With cafes and restaurants spilling out onto the pavements and a quaint ancient centre which is like a mini Dubrovnik without the walls.

Ston

Ston  - The northern tip of the former Republic of Dubrovnik this historic town is packed full of things to see and do. From the second longest defensive wall in the world (after the Great Wall of China) and home to salt pans that stretch as far as the eye can see. Ston is also home of the best oysters in the region and is a gastronomic destination. Around a 50 minute drive from Dubrovnik.

Trsteno Arboretum  - these stunning gardens date from the early 15th century and are in fact one of the oldest arboretums in Europe. The garden encompassing the summer residence, aqueduct, mill, the fountain with Neptune and nymphs and the pavilion overlooking the sea and islands is the finest example of Dubrovnik summer residence garden architecture. Trsteno Arboretum is around a 25 minute drive from Dubrovnik.

Sokol Grad

Sokol Grad  - located at the base of soaring mountains in Konvale, south of Dubrovnik, this impressive defensive fortress offers panoramic views over the whole region. With a rich and interesting history Sokol Grad or Hawk City is around a 40-minute drive from Dubrovnik and is well worth a visit.

Slano

Slano  - with hidden beaches and pine covered hills the bay of Slano seems to fit the former slogan of the Croatian National Tourist Board "the Mediterranean as it once was." Around a 35 minute drive from Dubrovnik this peaceful cove has, along with a crystal clear sea, a modern marina, hotels and cafes and a couple of restaurants.
